Praj Industries has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) to promote the certification and adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in India.

The collaboration aims to conduct a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of SAF produced from Indian sugarcane feedstock through the Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) pathway. This assessment will help determine the environmental and economic feasibility of indigenous SAF production.

A key focus will be establishing an accurate Carbon Intensity (CI) metric, which measures greenhouse gas emissions per unit of energy (in gCO₂e/MJ), to evaluate the sustainability of SAF compared to conventional jet fuel.

The MoU also outlines the development of a certification framework tailored to Indian conditions. This framework will align with global sustainability benchmarks, such as the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) CORSIA and the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) CORSIA standards.

This partnership reinforces India’s growing leadership in sustainable aviation and marks a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of the aviation industry.
