Sensex Falls Over 300 Points Amid Global Trade Tensions, Tax Collection Drops

Indian markets opened on a cautious note Monday as U.S. President Donald Trump threatened a 30% tariff on imports from Mexico and the EU starting August 1. The BSE Sensex slipped 317 points to 82183, dragged by IT and Teck stocks, while the Nifty fell 59 points to 25090.

RBI data showed forex reserves fell USD 3.04 billion to USD 699.73 billion. Net direct tax collection dropped 1.34% to RS 5.63 lakh crore till July 10, mainly due to higher refunds.

Top Sensex gainers: Sun Pharma (+0.53%), SBI (+0.35%). Losers: Bajaj Finance (-2.08%), Infosys (-1.20%).

Asian markets traded mixed; Jakarta and Shanghai gained, while Taiwan and Nikkei edged lower.
